Simon Lambert was the third surgeon I saw about my shoulder and the only one who spent the necessary time to listen, investigate and understand. Not only is he outstanding, his attitude shines through the entire team. He has clearly engendered great respect and affection from all those who deal with him. As a patient therefore the experience was outstanding. Everyone, from the caterers (i.e. put the food down on the side the un-operated arm!) , nurses, physio, doctors , anesthetists and Mr Lambert himself know about their specialist area, don't clock watch and are primarily concerned with the care. The only constructive point I can dredge up is that I hadn't really fully appreciated the sheer difficulty of the early recovery phase despite the but then again it was my right shoulder and I am right handed, so not only was I one- handed/ armed for a while but left handed too! And maybe some contact with other patients to get expectation set (i.e. a reference or something - as happens in a business environment) could work, with permissions, of course, although I do recognise this may not be practical and doesn't in any case have any bearing on the actual treatment etc. In two words to summarise "outstanding and excellent" Thank you

I attended with a therapist who had recommended Mr Lambert. The doctor has a most reassuring manner, obviously very experienced and expert in his field but also gentle and an excellent listener. He explained very clearly the options open to me, encouraged questions, and involved the therapist in how best to help me; everything a consultant surgeon should be and often isn't!

Simon operated on my shoulder in November, and I am well on the road to recovery. Simon has a very pleasant and easy-going manner and I felt very much at ease through the entire process of diagnosis and surgery. I understand that Simon is very-much in demand, but I was able to see him within a couple of weeks of my GP referral. I would not hesitate to recommend Simon for any shoulder issues. His reputation as the top man in this field is well-deserved.

I had a complicated shoulder problem, and Mr lambert new exactly what it was without seeing me, where many others failed to identify the problem, if i had'nt seen Mr Lambert i would certainly be without the use of my right arm. i felt at total ease within his care and i am on the road to recovery, The service he and his team provided was exceptional. I cant thank them enough, all my family and friends have seen the difference in me. My only regret is i didnt see him sooner. Thank you very much.

At 71 years old,the shoulder operation I needed was a bit daunting...as this was my first ever surgery. My physio and GP both told me I needed to see Mr Lambert. I am so thankful I did ! After 10 months I am now back playing tennis and leading a full life. Mr Lambert has a great reputation...and I can only endorse it !

Profile

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in the shoulder and elbow. I also hold an honorary academic appointment within University College London. Having worked at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), a specialist orthopaedic hospital, where I created a research-active, educationally-acclaimed, science-based service, integrated with and recognising the extreme importance of expert rehabilitation, I have now moved to University College London Hospital. We enjoy a national reputation for clinical excellence and clinical research, which I fully expect to contribute to over the next decade. We value our national and international collaborations, and expect to develop these further with the evolution of the service. As a component of this effort my work with the AO has offered opportunities to younger colleagues while bringing the values of the AO to a wide variety of surgeons and therapists. Truly international collaboration and exchange of ideas clearly enhances and promotes the efficacy of patient-directed care and forms the basis for the motivation behind my development of the shoulder and elbow service at UCLH.
